Money Market

A Money Market Account is a high-yield savings option that lets you earn more on your balance while still keeping your funds accessible when you need them. Think of it as a bridge between a regular savings account and a certificate of deposit (or CD) – offering higher dividend rates without locking your money away for the long-term. A Money Market Account’s average-daily-balance earns a compounded rate, paid out through dividends monthly, helping your savings grow even faster. Rates, available here on our website, are tiered – meaning the higher your account balance, the greater your dividend’s return.

All you need to do is complete a new Account Card, denoting the Money Market Account type option at the top, and return the completed Account Card to any Greater Pittsburgh branch. A minimum initial deposit of $2,000.00 is required. This can be existing funds in your credit union savings, or you can deposit new funds to meet this requirement. You may visit any branch, call us at (412) 621-6800, or email info\.org if you have any questions about opening a new Money Market Account.

Youth Accounts

Teach your children the value of saving and begin putting money aside for their future! Any current GPFCU member as a parent or guardian may set up a Share Savings Account for minors under 18 years old with a valid social security number and copy of the youths birth certificate. The account is opened in the child’s name with the parent or guardian as joint owner.

Both you and your youth may make unlimited deposits into this account via payroll deductions, direct deposit, electronic funds transfer, cash, check, money order, etc. at any time.*

*Deposits may be mailed to:

  • Greater Pittsburgh Federal Credit Union
  • 4415 Fifth Ave Suite 100
  • Pittsburgh, PA 15213
If mailing a deposit, please ensure that the intended account number is clearly indicated.

  • Stop into any office or request a new member packet here.
  • Complete an Account Card with the minor’s information. (If the minor is unable to give their signature, the joint owner [adult member opening the youth account] signs the minor’s name for them and writes “minor” next to the signature.)
  • Joint owner(s) must provide photocopies of 2 forms of IDs:
    • driver’s license
    • work ID
    • passport, etc.
  • Return completed Account Card, parent or guardian’s photo ID copies, copy of youth’s birth certificate and SSN, and a minimum of $5.00 for the initial deposit.

At 16 years-old, youth members can open a free credit union Checking Account with debit card access – a perfect starter tool to teach young members the benefits to smart spending habits and account security. All that would be needed is an Account Card completed by the youth and the parent or guardian listed on the account as joint owner, indicating a Share Draft/Checking Account at the top of the completed Account Card.

At 18 years old, members who had youth accounts can remove the parent or guardian joint owner and retain sole ownership and membership at the credit union as an adult. To remove the parent or guardian from the account, a Remove Joint Owner form is required. This form is available in the Printable Form section of our website or at any GPFCU branch office.
